Lumsden Highway 11 collision claims lives of Bhishma Rajyaguru and Jayden Dalke

A two-vehicle collision on Highway 11 between Regina and Lumsden on Saturday night resulted in the deaths of Bhishma Rajyaguru, 22, and Saskatchewan Roughriders linebacker Jayden Dalke, 30. The Lumsden RCMP released new details regarding the incident on Monday morning.

According to the RCMP, the initial investigation indicates that a silver SUV, driven by Dalke, collided with a black SUV, driven by Rajyaguru. Dalke’s vehicle was travelling northbound in the southbound lane when the crash occurred. Both individuals died at the scene.

Details of the investigation

Mandy Maier, Sask. RCMP Director of Strategic Communications, stated in a news conference that alcohol and cannabis were found in Dalke’s silver SUV during a search. However, Maier could not specify the quantities of these substances or whether any containers were open. Autopsies and toxicology reports have been ordered as part of the ongoing investigation.

The RCMP had received a call approximately 30 minutes before the collision from a business in Lumsden. The call reported a silver SUV leaving without paying for fuel, which officers later identified as the vehicle Dalke was driving. Despite this, Maier noted that there were no prior reports to RCMP concerning erratic driving or a vehicle travelling in the wrong direction on the highway.

A Saskatchewan RCMP collision reconstructionist is assisting the Lumsden RCMP with the investigation. Maier indicated that collision reconstruction investigations typically take months to complete, and the timeline for toxicology and autopsy reports is currently unknown. She also mentioned that due to both individuals involved in the crash being deceased, further specific details might not be released to the public if there is no formal public court process.

Remembering those lost

Bhishma Rajyaguru, from Regina, was identified by RCMP as the driver of the black SUV. A GoFundMe campaign was initiated on Sunday to help repatriate Rajyaguru’s remains to his family in India. The campaign described him as a responsible son, an honest friend, and a talented and passionate musician who arrived in Canada in 2022 with aspirations.

The campaign’s description highlighted his kindness, loyalty, and infectious love for life, noting that his absence leaves a significant void. By noon on Monday, the campaign had raised more than $64,000.

Jayden Dalke, a linebacker and captain for the Saskatchewan Roughriders, was remembered by General Manager Jeremy O’Day as a positive force within the team. O’Day stated that Dalke was always smiling and loved football and his teammates. Dalke played for both the Edmonton Huskies and University of Alberta Golden Bears before being drafted into the CFL.

He was part of the Roughriders‘ 2025 championship-winning team that defeated the Montreal Alouettes 25-17 in Winnipeg to hoist the Grey Cup. Roughriders Head Coach Corey Mace informed the team of Dalke’s passing. The team’s scheduled games will continue without interruption, as O’Day believes being together will aid the grieving process for the players. The team plans to honour Dalke with a tribute before their next game, including players wearing his initials on their helmets.
