The Edmonton Oilers are set to commence their 2026-27 NHL season with a home-and-home series against the Vancouver Canucks. The first game is scheduled for September 29, followed by another on October 1. This marks the beginning of an expanded 84-game regular-season schedule for the team.
The initial matchup with the Canucks is one of two home-and-home sets in October. The Oilers will also face the Utah Mammoth on October 15 and 17. Following these series, the Stanley Cup champion Carolina Hurricanes are slated to visit Rogers Place on October 22, as part of the Oilers‘ first extended homestand of the campaign.
Key October Matchups
The October homestand will feature several notable games. The Toronto Maple Leafs are scheduled to visit on October 24, preceding the first Battle of Alberta against the Calgary Flames on October 28. Additional home games in October include contests against the Detroit Red Wings on October 26 and the Minnesota Wild on October 20.
Towards the end of October, the Oilers will embark on their annual trip to the East Coast. They are set to play a back-to-back series against the New York Islanders on October 31 and the New York Rangers on November 1, concluding this road trip against the New Jersey Devils on November 3.
The team’s longest homestand of the season will span eight games, split across January and February due to the All-Star Break. This period will include significant games against the Montreal Canadiens on January 30, the Pittsburgh Penguins on February 13, and the Boston Bruins on February 19.
Road Trips and Season Finale
The Oilers‘ schedule includes two separate extended six-game road trips. One is planned for November, and the other will occur in late December and early January. These trips will test the team’s resilience away from home ice.
The final stretch of the regular season will see the Oilers play 12 of their last 19 games against opponents from the Pacific Division. This includes three matchups against the Flames, with their last visit to Scotiabank Saddledome scheduled for March 23. The regular season will conclude with a home-and-home series against the Winnipeg Jets on April 7 and 10.
The season opener against the Canucks will also mark Mike Babcock‘s regular-season debut as the Oilers‘ coach. The Canucks‘ schedule also begins in September for the first time in their franchise history, with their season ending on April 10 against the Calgary Flames at the Scotiabank Saddledome.
The Oilers will also host the Carolina Hurricanes on October 22. This game will be the first time new Oilers netminder Frederik Andersen faces his former team since joining Edmonton. The starting goaltender role for Edmonton is currently contested, with Andersen having an opportunity for significant playtime.
Other notable games include a visit to the Anaheim Ducks on October 7. The Ducks eliminated the Oilers in the first round of the playoffs last season. On December 1, the Oilers will host the Buffalo Sabres, a team that previously handed Edmonton a significant loss.
The Dallas Stars will visit Edmonton on December 17. Last season, the Stars swept their three-game series against the Oilers. An away game against the Colorado Avalanche is scheduled for January 26. The Avalanche had a strong season last year, setting a franchise record for points.
The Vegas Golden Knights will play in Edmonton on February 3, during the Oilers‘ eight-game homestand. The Golden Knights were the Western Conference champions last season. The Oilers will also travel to face the Columbus Blue Jackets on December 27, a team previously coached by Mike Babcock.
The Oilers will face the Florida Panthers on November 17. The Panthers have been a significant cross-conference rival for Edmonton, having made multiple Stanley Cup Final appearances. Full, half, and quarter season seats for the 2026-27 season are currently available.
